Since it looks like ABC is going to air this abomination of a movie, we have no choice, in my view, except to begin a total and permanent boycott of all things ABC and Disney. We all know that, individually, boycotting anything is more symbolic than real action, especially when only a few people do it. But there are what, 105,000 Kossacks? Plus who knows how many regular visitors? Plus plenty of others at other blogs? Plus all the myriads of other concerned citizens (left, center, and even right) who are outraged and horrified by ABC's and Disney's naked propagandizing just before the elections who can be contacted and made part of this? There's a hell of a lot of us, folks, and the swine who perpetuated this atrocity on us need to hear from all of us, every damn day.
What to do? I've made it a bit simpler. See below.
Kudos to HighAcidity's
Big List of Action Contacts - Adds & Updates Hotlist regarding this film. In that diary, there are far more methods of expressing your outrage and your refusal to participate in their collective hoodwinking of America than in my own diary here.
Okay. We all have busy lives, no doubt, so we can't spend tons of time on a daily basis bitchslapping the Mouse and his fascist cohorts. So the majority of the effort needs to be done only once. Here's what I'm going to do, and I'm asking you to join in.
First, if you know how to do it, set up your e-mail client to send the following message automatically, once a day, every day, forever and ever. Outlook will do it, as will, I believe, Eudora and Pegasus, among other e-mail clients. I don't know how to tell you to do it, as I no longer have the occasion to use any of those clients. If you're stuck with less nimble e-mail clients, or if you use Web mail such as GMail, Yahoo, HotMail, or what have you, simply send the following message and save it as a draft. Then go into your e-mail program, go into your draft folder, and resend the message.
Always change it from "Day 1" or "Day 365" or whatever to the correct day, or, if that's too much, rewrite it to take that phrase out. Instead of "This is Day X of my and my family's boycott..." try "This is to announce the permanent boycott by me and my family...." Or rewrite it as you please. As always, leave the profanity, the empty threats, and so forth OUT of the messages. Those are counterproductive, not to mention beneath us.
Send it to the following e-mail addresses:
robert.a.iger@disney.com, george.mitchell@dlapiper.com, steve@pixar.com, publicity@pixar.com, patrick.k.preblick@abc.com, jonathan.hogan@abc.com, erin.felentzer@abc.com, netaudr@abc.com, espnpr@espn.com, rrobinson@scholastic.com, news@scholastic.com
Here's my message:
Permanent Boycott of ABC, Disney, Scholastic, and Pixar
This is Day X of my and my family's boycott of Disney and ABC because of your choice to produce and air "The Path to 9/11." My family will never again choose to buy or view any Disney, ABC, or Pixar products. We will never again visit a Disney theme park or make Disney a part of our vacation plans. We will never watch an ABC television production, nor an ABC Family, History Channel, ESPN, or A&E broadcast -- those channels are now blocked on our television. We will never listen to an ABC Radio or ESPN Radio broadcast. We will never make use of an ABC or Disney Internet product. Since the film will be a free download on iTunes, we will never make use of iTunes again. We will never go to the theater to view a ABC, Disney, Buena Vista, Miramax, Pixar, Hollywood, or Touchstone film, nor will we ever rent or buy a DVD from these companies. As a teacher, I will never use an ABC, Disney, or Scholastic product in my school, and I am working with my school district to purge these products from our entire district. We have purged our household of all Disney products, including DVDs, videotapes, books, and even stuffed animals.
You chose to betray our country and dishonor the dead and wounded of September 11 by airing this flagrantly dishonest piece of extremist propaganda. You chose to attempt to affect the November 2006 elections by airing it just weeks before the elections. You are unworthy of my patronage and the patronage of anyone who considers themselves a patriotic, upstanding American. Consider yourself unforgiven.
Max Black and Family
Get to it, folks.
As per a suggestion downthread, anyone who isn't employed by the schools needs to either dump the Scholastic info from the message before using it, or modify the message to say something like, "As a parent, I will be working with my school district to ensure that it no longer buys Scholastic materials for its schools."
Socialist Butterfly has written
a beautifully wise and insightful comment about this not being just a boycott, but a lifestyle choice. Check it out. He/she says it far better than I could.
