"The bad apples should be deported." Hastert said recently about some of the millions of illegal immigrants on a Chicago WLS radio interview. Neither he nor his office would define "bad apples." It's not clear if he would include Elvira Arellano or her 7 yr-old son.
However it is clear that when it comes to benefitting from undocumented workers Hastert is just as ready as the next neo-con to profit from the sweat of their brows.
Take for example his $500 a plate gala last night at the Hilton Tower in Chicago. I wonder how many illegal immigrants picked the makings for his salad, or cooked his food, or cleaned the banquet room after the cream of the Republican crop returned to their climate controled castles.
Also take the thousands of dollars he poured into landscaping at his Plano home in the country. The farm he "fell in love with" but is willing to sell off acres at a time for millions of dollars in profit. I wonder if you could count on one hand how many undocumented workers were involved with digging or planting the trees, shrubs, and plants now gracing his front lawn. Would he consider those laborers who provided the natural beauty along his driveway "bad apples?" And now that the work has been completed for low wages should they be deported?
I wonder what Denny would say if there were still a decent journalist around willing to ask the really tough questions? A journalist willing to truly investigate.
