With this stunning comment, George Bush welcomed the new Congress.
'It's time to set aside politics and focus on the future,' President Bush said Wednesday in the Rose Garden after a meeting with his Cabinet.
I wonder what future he is refering to? Could it be that Gerald Ford's funeral got his attention in ways that nothing else seems to have done?
The Boy King then further provided evidence that he really doesn't know what the hell he is doing. You can find some choice quotes here. If this diary stays alive I will link to the entire event from C-SPAN as soon as it is available.
I watched the whole travesty on C-SPAN, this morning, carefully avoiding putting myself within reach of throwing objects. It was pretty much touch and go when The Boy King said:
Fiscal restraint is one area where the executive and legislative branches of government can work together.
Well, that pretty much suggests that the single most important issue of his presidency, Iraq, is not one that will be worked on with the Democratic Congress! As Jim Rutenberg noted on 12/26/06:
With Congress out of session, President Bush has sought to reassert his relevance and show yet again that he can chart his own course.
Link.
Forget Iraq. It's all about the money, Georgie goes on to tell us.
Sneaking in a coded reference to that old Republican mantra about tax and spend Democrats, he lays down the gauntlet for the '08 election cycle. Our Exhaulted Leader wants to pass legislation to eliminate ear marks. Cutting earmarks for the new Democratic majority seems to be a very important undertaking in the Bush brain. Particularily if it involves grabbing the caboose of that speeding train, climbing aboard, and claiming to be the engineer. Thus does "set aside politics" rise to new levels of deceit.
Might this new passion for "shining a light" on earmarks have something to do with the latest earmark orgy costing the Republicans 6 seats in the last cycle! Pork No Longer Paves the Road to Re-election by Timothy Eagan on Christmas Day, 2006.
He then pasted the current Republican Lie all over the bandwidth once again, completely ignoring the debt, deficit, employment figures, falling dollar, and implosion of substandard mortgages by saying:
"Over the past few years, pro-growth economic policies have generated higher revenues," he said. "Together with spending restraint, these policies allowed us to meet our goal of cutting the budget deficit in half three years ahead of schedule."
Bush's new budget proposal would "cut the deficit in half" in 2012, rather than the 2015 date that has been circulating for the past few months. Funny how all these Champions of Tax Cuts want someone else to take responsibility for cleaning up their messes. Bush leaves office in '08, before the economic disaster created by blind ideology and pimping for corporate interests can fully mature. It will fall squarely in the lap of the next President, be that a Democrat, or Republican.
On second thought, I guess Ford's funeral may not have had an impact after all. This drivel can not be viewed a legacy building, can it?
But, back to the Joy of the Day:
Thanks for this bucker-upper Georgie! I'm so pleased to know that everything is fine, any problems will be a result of the new Congress's failure to do as they are told, and the coming economic, industrial and international collapse will be their fault, too!
Iraq? What Iraq?
