Tomorrow Representatives Woolsey, Lee and Waters will present a bill in the House to withdraw US troops from Iraq in six months. The bill includes adequate funding for Iraq reconstruction.
With militarymembers calling for withdrawal, a conservative Galluppoll saying 61% of Americans want withdrawal, including 19% who favor immediate withdrawal, the Out of Iraq Caucusis ready to bring this accelerated timetable legislation to the House floor.
About time and more.........
I contacted the three co-sponsors for contact information to give my new Vermont Congressman, Peter Welch, the information, as he campaigned and won on an out-of-Iraq platform. He can be reached at 202-225-4115.
The announcement will take place tomorrow at 2PM in the House Radio and TV Gallery and is not open to the public.
According to an aide in Congresswoman Woolsey's office, some of the bill's provisions are:
*Out of Iraq in six months
*Fully fund the VA for returning vets
*Limit foreign ownership of oil
*Returns the Green Zone to the Iraqi people
*Limits US embassy size
*Adequately funds Iraq reconstruction.
Media is not going to make more of this than they did Senator Kennedy's bill. I'm going to increase exposure through LTEs, phone calls to Congress and media, and distributing copies of the bill when it is published around my community.
Congresswoman Lynn Woolsey: 202-225-2661
Legislative assistant Jennifer Goedke
Congresswoman Barbara Lee: 202-225-2661
Congresswoman Maxine Waters: 202-225-2201
Legislative assistant Michael Rose
I'm looking forward to the announcement and hope it will get a push. I want to see a surge in peace-keeping efforts, not more war.
