Our dangerous president said in his SOTU that no one voted for failure, his speechwriter's implication being that we voted for 'winning' in Iraq. I don't think so. I think the American people have long given up on winning, we only want out of the middle east, and pronto. Mr. Bush also makes the claim that when we stop fighting them there, they'll come right here and fight us at home. His third argument is that when we leave there will be a bloodbath. This are his three 'best' arguments for continuing the war in Iraq, and for widening the war to include first Iran and then Syria. This is nothing but madness based on nonesnse.
By now there aren't only a few of us worrying that Bush, all by himself, is going to bomb Iran, and no one can stop him, it's finally most everybody. But mad as such a reckless, bloody, and terrifying act this would (or will) be, our media and our cowardly politicians are assisting him in maintaining his delusion of power, by not naming him the madman that he is. Hillary is getting close with her 'blame the president only stance' on war authorization, but she's not there yet. Obama is close with his plan to get us out, only he's pretending it's a way to win, when win is impossible, so he's, inadvertently, feeding Bush's madness. Edwards has a plan too, that Bush can see as 'not good enough' to win. Bush wants this 'we voted to win' to be a challenge to the Democrats, come up with a plan to win, or 'he'll 'win' for 'em. He means he'll widen the war to chase his so-called win.
Hillary says there's no do-overs, but this Iran one comes as close as it can get. (1) The Democrats need to speak the truth: The war is lost, there is no winning, only worse losing. Americans voted to get us out of there, not to stay until we 'win.' (2) It makes no sense to claim they'll come over here to fight us after we leave Iraq, that's just nutty. Iraq (and Lebanon) created terrorist capacity, didn't diminish it. Bush hasn't protected us from terrorists, the terrorists aren't as rich, smart or organized as they'll need to be, although he's giving them 'stolen' money, 'stolen' arms and lots of practice. Terrorism is on the rise in spite of Iraq, and it's common knowledge that Bush is a recruitment dream for anti-American terrorists. (3) Bush's new WMD myth that has taken on the status of urban legend is that when we leave Iraq there will be a bloodbath. There iS a bloodbath there, and there is no way of predicting if it will be more of one or less of one when we leave.
Let's ask our candidates to save themselves from future embarrassment, when do-over's are again impossible, and do it right, now. Speak the truth: The war is lost, it's made things worse, the 'bloodbath' talking point is bogus because it could go either way; Bush is wanting the debate to be about 'winning' so when he bombs Iran he can claim the American people wanted a 'win.'
