OMFG. I've been really under the gun at work the past week and found myself at my office today putting together a proposal that MUST be FedEx'd on Monday (a holiday for me). I knew the Senate vote was going to occur at some point, so I was thrilled to catch the LIVE roll call on the procedural vote to consider the Senate's non-binding resolution regarding the troop escalation in Iraq on CNN Radio (Sirius).
They ran through the names... And I heard "Aye" from Hagel, Snowe, Specter and Warner. I was elated! Then this:
CLERK: Mr. Lieberman?
LIEBERMAN: Nay.
I literally screamed out loud in my car: "FUCK YOU!!" Fume with me over the fold.
At the very instant I heard LIEberSCUM issue his "Nay" vote on the non-binding resolution to oppose troop escalation, I thought, "Rot in hell, you fucker." I drove all the way home thinking about that decided I would go looking for information about what LIEberSCUM said during the 2006 Senate campaign with respect to Iraq so I could simply underscore, again, the lying sack of disloyal SHIT that is Joe Lieberman. Here's what I found:
From the July 2006 debate transcript with Ned Lamont via The Washington Post:
July 7, 2006: LIEBERMAN: Absolutely untrue. I have said the sooner we get out of Iraq, the better. But if we get out too soon, it will be a disaster for the Iraqis and for us.
From the closing remarks an August 2006 speech, via Steve Gilliard's News Blog:
August 6, 2006: I know as well as anyone we have made a lot of mistakes in Iraq and we have suffered more casualties than we should have. Don’t think for a minute I do not grieve for every casualty of this war.
::snip::
The last thing I want to do is needlessly add to that kind of heartbreak [of losing a loved one in Iraq]. I want to get our troops home as fast as anyone, probably more than most, and as I have repeatedly said, I am against an open-ended commitment.
Tim Tagaris over at My Left Nutmeg has some GREAT LIEberSCUM quotes regarding Iraq, made prior to the election:
October 19, 2006: "I want to end the war in Iraq and bring our troops home" [Associated Press]
October 19, 2006: "No one wants to end the war in Iraq more than I do and bring our troops home" [Hartford Courant]
October 26, 2006: "We ought to work together to find a policy we can all support that can get us to the point where we can bring our troops home." [Hartford Courant]
October 28, 2006: "'Joe Lieberman won three healthy debates covering a wide variety of issues, including his plan to bring our troops home quickly and in a way that doesn't threaten our security,' said Lieberman spokeswoman Tammy Sun." - [Associated Press]
November 4, 2006: "Lieberman has pledged to caucus with the Democrats. And if the party can gain six seats next Tuesday, he would be in line to become chairman of the Senate Homeland Security panel, a powerful committee dealing with the issue of terrorism." [Associated Press]
November 5, 2006: "'Joe Lieberman has repeatedly said that if re-elected to the Senate, he will absolutely caucus with the Democrats,' Lieberman spokeswoman Tammy Sun said." [Associated Press]
November 6, 2006: "Sen. Joe Lieberman, who lost the Democratic primary amid criticism for his support of the war in Iraq, told supporters Sunday that if he's re-elected as an independent he will work to bring the troops home." - [Associated Press]
November 6, 2006: "Although he's promised to caucus with Democrats if re-elected, he's been praised by the White House and by prominent Republicans such as New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg." [Associated Press]
November 6, 2006: "Lieberman has pledged to caucus with the Democrats if he wins a fourth term." [Associated Press]
November 8, 2006: "Lieberman has pledged to caucus with the Senate Democrats and serve out his term, even if offered a position in the Bush administration." [New Haven Register]
The mind literally reels at the thought of this. To win re-election, he repeatedly promised that he wanted to "bring the troops home" and further that he would "caucus with the Democrats". Yet today, he voted NAY when every other voting Democrat (with Tim Johnson (SD) the only one understandably absent) voted AYE.
So now I bring you the FuckYouVeryMuch Honorary Roll Call:
FuckYouVeryMuch, Democrats who supported LIEberSCUM during the 2006 Senate race: Biden, Boxer (sorry Barb - love you usually but you screwed the pooch on this one royally), and Salazar. May every death from this day forward weigh on your soul.
FuckYouVeryMuch, CT residents who voted for LIEberSCUM.
FuckYouVeryMuch, media who failed to really highlight the disparity between LIEberSCUM's non-campaign and campaign statements on Iraq.
And now, the shorter KudosToYou Honorary Roll Call:
Tepid kudos to Hilary Clinton an John Kerry for saying they would support whomever the Democrats put forward as the nominee for Senate in CT. I don't know how loudly they supported Lamont, but they went on record as such in the WaPo article linked above.
Big kudos to the seven Republicans who voted AYE today: Snowe (ME), Specter (PA), Hagel (NE), Coleman (MN), Warner (VA), Collins (ME), and Smith (OR).
We fell four votes short of being able to move to a floor vote on the resolution. The relevant part, after all the "wheras'", is as follows:
(1) Congress and the American people will continue to support and protect the members of the United States Armed Forces who are serving or who have served bravely and honorably in Iraq; and
(2) Congress disapproves of the decision of President George W. Bush announced on January 10, 2007, to deploy more than 20,000 additional United States combat troops to Iraq.
(BIG HAT TIP to BarbinMD for pointing out that I had the WRONG text in the blockquotes above and for further providing me with the RIGHT text!)
Yet he couldn't hold with the Democrats and vote AYE on any of the above. Ridiculous. Rot in hell, Joe, you fucking droop-eyed liar. You suck. You are a pimple on the ass of humanity.
