WYFP is our community's Saturday evening gathering to talk about our problems, empathize with one another, and share advice, pootie pictures, favorite adult beverages, and anything else that we think might help. Everyone and all sorts of troubles are welcome. May we find peace and healing here. Won't you please share the joy of WYFP by recommending?
Thanks to Elizabeth D, who hosted this diary on a weekly basis for more than a year, for keeping the tradition alive. We're now rotating the hosting duties, so no one person has to do all the work all the time; the current schedule is posted in one of the early comments here. If you're interested in hosting a session of WYFP?, leave a comment there or send me an e-mail, and I'll put you on in the first available slot. (Right now, that's early June.)
This wasn't supposed to be my week, as I did the duty last week. But as we're well past the usual hour (7-7:30 p.m. Central) for WYFP? I'm going to guess that our scheduled host(ess), delphine, was unable to be with us tonight. So I've moved him/her down to the next open slot on the schedule, and I'll fill in again this week.
My problem this week was the flu. I finally got bitten by the bug, and it bit hard. I was home from work all week, missed all of my classes, and basically haven't left the house (apart from one brief excursion on Monday to round up files and things that my colleagues at work needed to be able to take care of the things on my desk for me) since last Saturday afternoon. That also meant, dammit, that I had to miss last Sunday's Gaelic Storm concert, which meant my mom, who bought the tickets, also didn't go, and that blows. I told her to go with someone else, but she didn't have an awful lot of time to round up a last-minute concert partner (and I'm not sure how they would've handled the student discount thing, since mine was a student ticket as I pay fees at the university, and would've had to show my student ID to get in at that price).
On the brighter side of things, though, that meant I got to miss another week of tremendously cold weather, which I mostly just watched through the windows while curled up under lap rugs and afghans, with a warm pootie on my lap and something mindless on the telly. Occasionally I did manage to read a little history, and yesterday I felt well enough to spend the morning reading candidates' files for a search committee I'm on this year which is meeting with the provost next week and hopes to start interviewing soon, so we can have a new library dean in place by the time the new fiscal year starts in July.
Anyway, that's my FP (or at least my biggest FP) for the week. What are yours?
