Many conspiracy theories exist about government and particularly about the Bush administration. Most of these theories are pure garbage, rhetoric aimed at filling your mind with disgust for the government, this administration, and our country in general. As a rule, I do not subscribe to any of these outlandish theories that are not based in fact or are refuted by leading experts in any particular field. Theories like the district attorneys being fired for political gain, tower 7 of the WTC being imploded by the government, the war in Iraq for oil, and many others are simply asinine; propagated by shallow thinkers who attempt at any chance to drag a knife through the president’s policy and disrupt the GOP’s well oiled political machine.
Or so I thought....
It happened last night - Florida and Ohio each winning their "final four" game and earning a chance to face off in the NCAA men’s basketball championship. Wait, I told my wife Casie, Ohio State v. Florida in an NCAA Championship game, where have I heard that before? She quickly reminded me that these two teams were the same ones that had competed for the football championship only two months earlier...oh yeah...hmm. It seemed a little bit odd that both of these schools were competing in their second championship game of the year, no doubt bringing tremendous amounts of revenue to their school and the state in the process, it seemed odd, maybe even corrupt. That’s when it hit me...wasn’t Ohio the prize state for Republicans in the 2004 elections and Florida the key in 2000? Weren’t allegations of voter fraud and disenfranchisement rampant after both elections, and wasn’t the total tally separated by only a few thousand votes in both the elections combined? Instantly I saw through the guise, knowing that this was simply a trick, a Karl Rove tactic aimed at propagating good feelings amongst the citizens of both states - designed to leave voters nostalgic in 2008, voting for the "good times" and mistaking the joy of NCAA victory for the harsh reality felt by the rest of America. I boiled, knowing that I was being led into thinking that Ohio St. and Florida made the championships on their merits, but this is simply another GOP tactic!
A Ha!
Don’t think that I’m not on to you Rove! You might have slipped through the cracks with the Valerie Plaine fiasco, you might have dodged political bullets fired by Olberman, Clinton, Rosie O’Donnell and rest of "the View", but this latest plot will surely bring you down. Whereas I once dismissed Bush political conspiracies as rhetoric, I now see right through them. It’s easy, just read the blog, drink the Kool-aid, and believe!
