It has been documented in many diaries, (check out all of dengre's diaries) that Tom Feeney was part of the Abramoff scandal. He was on the same junket to Scotland with Abramoff, Ney and Mark Zachares, and yesterday the scandal's spotlight was shining on Tom Feeney. It has been confirmed that the FBI is actively pursuing information on Feeney's role in the Abramoff affair.
Yesterday, Scott Maxwell of the Orlando Sentinel confirmed that the FBI had contacted him about Feeney and wanted him to hand over e-mail correspondences between him and Feeney's office. Scott writes a regular column called "Taking Names" and he is a diligent political reporter. He was interviewed on Clear Channel's WTKS, "Philips Phile" yesterday, and he speculated that that the $5643.00 that Feeney paid back to the Treasury Department when he "discovered" that Abramoff had paid for the trip, is much less than the actual cost of the trip. He also pointed out that Feeney was the #3 House Rep referred to in the initial DOJ investigation memo.
Since the investigation is on-going, and his e-mails and articles are involved, he could not elaborate much further. But make no mistake about it, Feeney is starting to squirm. The local Orlando Television stations have picked up on this as well and I believe the story has long legs. It will be interesting to watch.
This House seat will definitely be in play in 2008.
