Last month my wife and I went to Jamaica to celebrate our 17th anniversary. It was overcast the whole time but we did have a nice time. The reason for my diary actually occurred on our arrival back to the US of A. We flew into DFW and disembarked and were told to go to Immigration Services. So we took off down the corridor and as we took a turn we were faced by a 3 foot by 4 foot sign welcoming us to the United states. I suppose it should make me feel all warm and fuzzy but it did not. The sign read, "The US Department of Homeland Security welcomes you to the United States of America."
I guess this is an innocent enough placement but I can’t help being a little dismayed by it. I was overcome with the feeling that it is their country and they can welcome me to it. Maybe it has come to that. We are citizens of this country at their pleasure. They can welcome us or sure as hell throw us out if they so choose.
I couple this with the changes to the eminent domain rules, wire tapping and the removal of US attorneys. We are losing the very fabric of our country to the people who are supposed to protect it.
I know that I am not the only person that has felt this way, but I was blindsided by the poster signed by an organization created by an administration that achieved its power in a bloodless coup welcoming me to their country.
