I've had enough of the Democratic Party and organizations like MoveOn asking for money to address some problem caused by the Bush administration. These solicitations attempt to fix some problem caused by the group of criminals in the White House without addressing the root cause: the need to remove Dick Cheney from office.
I gave way to much in 2006 hoping that a Democratically-controlled House and (hope to dream) Senate would make a difference. It has not. In a week's time, I receive dozens of emails and direct mail solicitations from Democratic candidates, left-leaning organizations, and the Democratic Party looking for money so that we can make a change.
Today, I snapped. Read on.
I received an email from MoveOn today with this text (not to pick on MoveOn, this is just one example):
You joined over 600,000 other MoveOn members last month when you signed a petition asking Congress to give us relief from high gas prices and a smart energy policy. But in the dead of the night, Congress weakened the bill that would make gas price gouging a federal crime. Now, it's virtually unenforceable.
You mean the Democratically-controlled Congress? The same one that is controlled by Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid? With the money that I spent in 2006 to help the Democrats take back Congress, how is this sky-is-falling email possible? Exactly what kind of return-on-investiment did this netroots supporter get?
We all know -- except for the Democratic leadership -- that the country wants us out of Iraq. What did I get for my 2006 contributions? A Democratically-controlled Congress that caved. Business as usual. Lousy return on my 2006 investment.
As of today, I've decided to stop enabling the Democratic Party. No more money until Nancy Pelosi can find herself on the impeachment table. HR 333 is a most excellent starting point. You have to aim high, Nancy and Harry. Aim high.
So, MoveOn. I cannot send you $3.29, the price of a gallon of gas. I can support you, MoveOn, if you direct your attentions to impeaching Dick Cheney. We may find that gas prices go down then when oil men aren't manipulating the prices. We may even find ourselves out of Iraq, an illegal war fought for oil.
Jim Webb, I was glad to send you money to help you get elected. But, I cannot support your friend in northern Virginia. I can support you if you and other senators help Ms. Nancy get on the impeachment table.
John Edwards, I know you need the cash and I am currently supporting you. If you make it to the primaries, I will vote for you just as I did in 2004. However, I will not be sending any more money. With all this job insecurity the middle class is feeling, I'd better keep the little extra money that I do have for myself. My house isn't multi-acres like yours, but I do like it and I'd like to try to keep it. You may want to call Nancy; help her onto the impeachment table.
Howard Dean, love ya. But, I'm stopping the automatic contributions to Democracy Bonds that I've been making. You probably have Nancy on speed dial. You may want to call her. Impeachment.
Point of the story: I may not be able to get Nancy Pelosi to do her job by protecting this country and the Constitution from those who commit High Crimes myself, but I sure can stop enabling the do-nothing, can't-hear Democratic leadership who refuses start impeachment. Until then, dry up the funds. Limit your spending. As heard on the Mike Malloy Show, do nothing. Peaceful, civil disobedience. This national nightmare and what we've inflicted on the rest of the world needs to end.
