Today was one of those days when the sheer volume of utter lawlessness of the B*sh administration just came crashing down, wave after wave after wave...and yet I click through on Buzzflash and find an article of Democrats whining about how they know people want action but, gee, they just can't seem to summon the spine. Reid thinks they "set the bar too high" and Pelosi says "we can only do so much". Of course, they ignore the one thing they CAN do, especially if the Republicans are going to sabotage every effort to pass any legislation whatsoever that isn't dictated directly from the mouth of the Dear Leader or Darth Cheney themselves:
Impeach.
So I decided to write to Speaker Pelosi. Maybe if she hears from enough of us she'll get the hint.
Dear Speaker Pelosi:
Last year you memorably declared that impeachment of President Bush was "off the table". Today alone we have learned from Rep. Waxman's Oversight Committee that there has been extensive destruction of White House emails in massive violation of the Presidential Records Act, possibly with the knowledge of Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez. We also learned from the GAO that the administration, contrary to its function as laid out in the US Constitution to faithfully execute the law, is not complying with duly passed and signed bills.
That's just today.
With all due respect, Speaker Pelosi: is it on the table now? If not, when? At what point does utter lawlessness and open commission of felonies (as the President freely admitted in December 2005 when he publicly admitted to repeated violations of the FISA Act) demand this perfectly legitimate, Constitutionally sanctioned remedy? To be blunt, Speaker Pelosi, the future legitimacy of our Republic is in your hands at this very moment. To simply "run out the clock" on this presidency will establish precedents that can never be taken back.
Representative Dennis Kucinich has offered Articles of Impeachment against Vice President Cheney. He has seven co-sponsors. Please exert your leadership to bring these charges to the fore. Additionally, the Attorney General has lied under oath to the Congress of the United States and the President has indicated he will not fire him; while the President himself, as mentioned above, has repeatedly and deliberately flaunted both the law and his oath of office. I urge you to personally present Articles of Impeachment for both of these individuals as well and to advance them with the full force of your leadership position, resolutely and without apology.
Speaker Pelosi, I read in the newspaper today a quote where you said "we can only do so much". We The People don't ask for so much; we ask for one long-overdue action. History is calling you.
