I couldn't figure out how to title this post, because I'm still so heartbroken that there's even a need for it. So many of us miss the hell out of Steve. It's like a big hole in our hearts not to go to our familiar homestead at The News Blog, and settle in for intelligence and tea and humor and anger and knowledge and truth and food and relationships and race and...all the wonders that Steve brought to the table.
(follow me below the fold for some really good news)
Steve & Jen invited us all in to the News Blog to sit, laugh, take a load off, think deeply, tell the truth. Nothing quite like it. But, as we learned while he was ill and so many in the blogosphere rallied round to help, there are voices that grew into their power on the NewsBlog, encouraged and honed by the community.
I am very, very grateful to share the news that some of the strongest News Blog voices who had no blog home of their own have created a new home, at the Group News Blog
For those of you who were regulars on the News Blog, you'll recognize Hubris Sonic as the absolutely no bullshit military guy writing with blunt compassion and searing truth about the way life works in country - and the citizen's obligation to those who serve. You'll be as grateful as I am that our 'Doc' Jesse Wendel is a member of the team, who (aided by some of our other medical folks) wrote about Steve's illness in clear, simple, honest ways to help those of us who didn't understand the medical field - and kept us aware of what could happen, good and bad. And you'll be thrilled that the team includes Lower Manhattanite, whose writing combines humor, razor-sharp wit and a finely-honed sense of outrage in unforgettable prose.
Many thanks to all three of you. Many thanks to Steve and Jen for starting something so worth carrying forward. And thanks in advance to all of you future regulars. Let's be about it.
