Overall, I found last night's Democratic candidates' debate a high-spirited, largely informative, and surprisingly illuminating affair. I found many of the answers refreshingly unscripted, even from the "top 3," and found cause to question some of the personal preferences/leanings that I had going in.
So, I'm glad I watched.
But there were some questions -- and even wholesale topics -- that were notably absent in last night's debate. Questions I would have liked to hear answers to. Below the fold, I'll ask mine, and you can use the comments to provide yours and speculate as to what kind of answers we'd get from our favorite candidates.
My question:
If elected, will you disavow the principle of the unitary executive, reverse all of the fascistic and quasi-fascistic executive orders that Bush has authored to consolidate power, and in all ways respect the balance of powers that the framers intended and provided for in the Constitution?
It is a far simpler question than it sounds, really. I am certain how Dodd would answer the question ("Hell Yes"), and I believe Edwards would answer with an emphatic "yes" as well. I have no idea how Obama would answer the question, and I fear that Hillary would deliver a dodging response -- perhaps indicate that she'd use an abundance of executive power to reverse some of the damage that Bush has done.
I would be disappointed in that answer, by the way.
