I am angry and feel abused -- never before has my involvement with this community left me feeling so much like a consumer or a rube.
What could cause this sense of belittlement?
David Sirota.
I know that it is not appropriate to "call people out" in titles, but sometimes something needs some direct calling. And I call Bullshit.
I left a comment yesterday on David Sirota's advertisement for himself. Fine. My comment wasn't particularly "supportive" and I certainly did not recommend his diary, however;
Today, without warning -- in my personal email account -- I received the following:
Dear Fellow Kossack, [note the very personal greeting]
Just a quick note to THANK YOU for your support yesterday when I
asked fellow Kossacks for help letting local newspaper editors know
about my upcoming Creators Syndicate column
(h ttp://www.creators.com/opinion/david-sirota.html
{h ttp://www.creators.com/opinion/david-sirota.html})
{h ttp://www.creators.com}. [shameful shilling]
Sure, it pretends not to be spam, but it was spam. It ended with the promise of more crap in my account:
I'll make sure to send you a note when the first column starts
running in September. Many of you said that it's important to remind
editors multiple times about this, rather than only once - and I
absolutely agree. Another push in early September when the column
kicks off will be incredibly helpful.
Thanks again for your help!
Let us be clear -- this is uninvited solicitation and spam.
I frankly would rather get random promises of cash from Nigeria or solicitations for viagra rather than to have my email address taken by another community member for their own personal benefit. At least then I have not been subjected to the e-crap because I belong and comment on Daily Kos. Talk about chilling free speech!
This sucks, and I hope that Sirota is both ashamed and thrown off this site.
So what is your point, you ask? I want an apology and $15,000 from Sirota and if he won't pay up, then from the Daily Kos corporation for making my personal email account available to spammers.
Otherwise, I promise to send everyone invitations to "Classmates Gold" next week.
