UPDATE: Okay, San Diego Gas and Electric has the goods online. They are indeed declaring a power emergency, at least here:

Heat Emergency Declared
Due to extreme heat conditions, a Power Emergency has been declared. Weather conditions in San Diego have led to the potential for rolling blackouts.
We are asking all customers to take immediate conservation steps:
* Set your air conditioning thermostat to 78 degrees or higher, health permitting.
* Turn off unnecessary lights and computers.
* Do not use any major appliances, ie. dishwashers, washing machines, dryers and electric stoves.
* Please turn off pool filtering systems.
Rolling Blackout information:
Check here for information about which blocks and circuits may be involved in the event of potential blackouts. Block and circuit numbers are printed on your bill, just under the electric meter number, or call 1-800-411-SDGE.
Original diary:
A warning message just scrolled across my local CBS channel:
The intense heat in Southern California led to an all-time record power use before noon today. If people don't take measures to conserve electricity immediately, officials may be forced to issue a STAGE 3 POWER ALERT. This means ROLLING BLACKOUTS. The warning stated that available capacity is extremely low right now.
I've been checking online for more information but can't seem to find any.
I visit the California Independent System Operator (ISO) page often and there are no obvious warnings about low capacity or conservation alerts. The power use graph also does not quite fit the warning message -- it does not even indicate record high use. Perhaps the web pages are not being updated because it is a holiday?? Anyone out there have any information??
But, the heat is extreme today. Much hotter than predicted. The high temperature at my zip code was predicted to be 92 degrees, and we reached 99 degrees at 11:30 am. The newly revised high is 102 degrees. (The normal high for this time of year is 77 degrees)
Please use this thread to post any information and updates that you find.
