I figured since my last title at the daily kos caused so much trouble, I’d censor myself- or at least just the title. Maybe that way readers will actually read my post. I don’t want to dwell on the reaction that I got from my last entry, but I think there are a few things worth addressing. I stand by every word I said. I did provide evidence. This is not a doctoral thesis; when discuss the number of UN violations Israel has committed, I am assuming the reader is capable of looking up such information. Same goes with various laws that I cite, such as the law of return, etc. One thing’s for sure, I’m not making any of this up.
As for being needlessly inflammatory, I’m still trying to figure out what that means. I did not call anyone any names – unlike some of the commentators. Yes, Israeli policy is in fact racist. If you cannot handle such a discussion, perhaps you should move on to other things. The point is, I did not call Israelis racist; because there are quite a few Israelis, for example, that stand with the Palestinians every Friday protesting the construction of the Wall. One of them was shot dead by the Israeli Army.
As to why I bring this up now? Well, we just increased our aid to Israel by billions of dollars. In fact, Israel has always relied on us heavily for all kinds of aid- monetary, and otherwise. That said, with an election coming up, I ask my fellow Americans to ask one simple question. Why?
When you borrow money from the bank, they run a credit check on you. Why can’t we conduct a human rights check on Israel? Amnesty has repeatedly documented human rights violations committed in Israel’s name. As to why I focus on Israel- well simply because our government dotes on Israel heavily. Don’t we have the right to ask why- to understand exactly what’s going on?
So many Americans hear about the middle east- but the truth is they don’t know much about it. The coming elections will only highlight the issue further; and yet many Americans will be left in the dark as to who exactly lives in the middle east- much less its rich history, and how in fact, it got the name ‘middle east’.
And yet much of our foreign policy is all about the ‘middle east’. How do these foreign policy decisions get made? Who sways public opinion? What is the one issue that candidates dare not touch? Israel. Why?
Last year two researchers at Harvard offered one explanation. In their essay, entitled the Israel Lobby, they went into great detail explaining how American interests do not necessarily line up with those of Israel’s. And yet they remain our closest friends.
Israel is still a racist state. It was founded on a racist ideology. I have no other word to describe Jewish only roads, settlements, and neighborhoods. I have no other words to describe the Law of Return. I have no other words to explain why Azmi Bishara has been singled out. I have no other explanation for the statements of Avigdor Lieberman, Golda Meir ( who dubbed Palestinians two-legged cockroaches), and almost every other Israeli policymaker that advocates for the mass transfer of the Palestinians. I see no other explanation for the land grabs, so meticulous and thought-out so that there be as little as many ‘arabs’ as possible.
This is only the tip of the iceberg. If this does not concern Americans, or any other human being for that matter, then I’m afraid we have lost touch with our humanity.
