Erwin Chemerinsky is a respected law professor at Duke Law School. However, he is guilty of the status offense of being a liberal. He was nominated for the Federal bench by Bill Clinton, but suffered the fate of most Clinton nominees -- death by blue slip (or whatever shifting strategy Orrin Hatch used at the time).
A week ago, he was hired to start up a law school at UC Irvine. But yesterday, Chancellor Drake of the University of CA at Irvine fired him
Yesterday, the Chancellor of the University of Cailfornia at Irvine flew to Durham and fired Chemerinsky, saying that he had not been aware of how Chemerinsky's political views would make him a target for criticism from conservatives.
I guess from now on, all law school Deans must come from Regent Law School.
This craven move has not been well received, even by conservatives:
John Eastman, a conservative constitutional scholar and dean of Chapman University Law School in Orange, who frequently debates Chemerinsky, called UCI's move "a serious misstep."
