There are nine pages of anti-worker/anti-union comments! Never in my wildest imagination could I have anticipated the venomous attacks on unions, the UAW and unionized workers. Astonishing! People hate the union worker because she earns decent pay and benefits. Rather than organize their workplaces, the people berate the union workers and are prepared to accept low wages, no pension, no healthcare.
I, however, have nothing but gratitude for the Labor Movement.
I grew up in a UAW family and my father earned enough that my mom could stay home and raise her three sons. My father and mother never had a college education, but the union wages my father earned allowed my parents to put 3 kids through university. Without the UAW and decent wages, my family never would have been able to afford our home or allow their boys to play hockey (a relatively expensive sport). Nor would we have been able to go to college without being saddled with crippling loans. I eventually went to law school and now practice labor law. My two brothers also have good jobs.
If you can stomach the vitriol, read the comments that people make about the UAW workers on strike. They have no support from the general public and thus the strike cannot last. And why do they hate the worker, because she earns a decent living. How goddamn depressing.
