So, you think that you had a crappy New Years? No date but pootie and the pizza delivery guy?
Mine was crappier. I went with my family to the annual Hustisford Toilet Bowl Pre-game Parade and did my duty as a stanch citizen journalist.. Which is appropriate as the internet is a series of tubes.
Head below the cut for more photos and alleged humor.
My aunt and uncle have recently built a house in Hustiford, Wisconsin. The village of Hustisford sits on historic Lake Sinissippi in south central Wisconsin. Quiet, unassuming, scenic... and the home of the Toilet Bowl.
The idea of the Toilet Bowl originated in 1967 as the result of a conversation between two Hustisford residents who sought an alternative to watching the bowl games on TV. The no-pads, no helmets’ game enticed more and more participating players and spectators each year. In 1973, the first queen was crowned, and the first pre-game parade took place.
My uncles inherited a booming business in sump-pumps from my Grandpa Jim and so we had to attend the parade. Our expectations were exceeded beyond belief. Click on the thumbnails for larger photos. :]
Heralds of the parade. (The Toilets are coming, the Toilets are coming!)
See the Pabst Blue Ribbon Car in action on my YouTube video!
Two-Ply!
Queen Becky and King Woody- Plunger Royalty for 2007! The king and queen earn their crown by selling the most raffle tickets. Proceeds go to scholarships for the graduating highschool class.
I don't know what the Grand High Poo-Bah does to earn his title. Can't imagine it'd be anything all that good.
Former royalty. Once a king or queen of Hustisford, always a king or queen of Hustisford.
My brother has a fantastic arm. That float never knew what hit it.
Silk Casper, the Parade Marshall and DJ of the local Polka radio station. Not a bad arm on him, either.
It's a Go-Cart. Get it?
The Tractor. A staple of all quality small town parades.
Kids darted under the wheels of cars and the hooves of horses for more ammo and a good time was had by all.
I take a break from behind the camera to mug a bit.
Join us for the Toilet Bowl in 2008, when the Jim Murray Sump-Pump float is good to go!
Happy New Years to all of you at Daily Kos from Murrayewv and Snowcountry!
May there be peace on earth, and let it begin with us. (wee?)
