President George W. Bush, slapped the majority of Americans in the face with his speech tonight outlining his new strategy for Iraq. Two months ago America spoke when it went to the polls and rejected the Bush team, instead voting for a Democratic Majority.
The one overwhelming issue that caused this historic change of direction for America was the War in Iraq, and the desire of We The People to bring our troops home.
The first 96 troops arriving in Iraq Wednesday were from the 82nd Airborne Division, which left for Kuwait last week. A lot of these same 96, have fought in Iraq before, so for their families, their absence is not unusual. But for family members of the 20,000 troops to follow, it is a heart wrenching experience.
A national telephone poll of 800 Likely Voters conducted by Rasmussen Reports found that 56% think that we should be reducing the number of troops in Iraq.
Bush attempted to garner higher numbers with his statement, "Where mistakes have been made, the responsibility rests with me." After nearly five years of war, the American People agree it is his responsibility, and look not to the Whitehouse for answers but to the new Democratic Majority.
Personally I am pushing for an 80% pull out by early 2008. I would prefer to see 100%, but realize that contracts, and American civilians will require protection, but with our totals now approaching 150,000 troops, 80% would mean 120,000 would be home and out of harms way. If the remaining 30,000 can’t provide protection to the civilians, then pull them all out cancel contracts and lets wipe our hands of the whole darn mess.
Senator Dick Durbin said, "Instead of a new direction, the presidents plan moves America in the wrong direction".
We are tired, we are disgusted, we want an end to this National Nightmare. Pack up and come home.
