Updated: Partial Audio of NPR's coverage of the press conference. Hat tip to the Beach Blogger and his great post on this.
I have changed my mind on impeachment since 11/7/06. We cannot allow this course to continue.
I'd been listening to Rice and Gates on NPR this morning on my way in to work. The window dressing they are putting on "Stay the Course" is nauseating. What are all these references to the Iraqi military that is supposedly going to be leading the "surge" in operations? Are Iraqis going to try to assassinate Al Sadr? Do our leaders think Iraqis going to stand up against Iran's "influence"? Gates thinks we're going to increase by 92,000 troops over a 5 years? Bullshit!
I ask you, what kind of delusions are breeding in our State and Defense Departments to produce these kinds of statements? How is this going to be funded? Is it alright if we raise taxes now, Mr. President?
I'm tired of having the same lies dressed up in a cheap suit and presented as some sort of revelation. I hope when this duo lands in front our Democrats on the Armed Services and Senate Foreign Committees today that some of these pointed lies are going to be addressed.
Even more notable about Iran - Condi started off the conference by extending her poisoned nuclear "olive branch", almost as a slap in the face being that we just stormed Iran's Consulate several hours before this "Press Conference". Nevertheless, she said she'd agree to meet her Iranian counterpart "anytime, anywhere" if Iran discontinued its nuclear enrichment. Maybe no one briefed her on the fact that we just attacked what is technically sovereign Iranian soil?
Is anyone surprised that Iran does not take our overtures of diplomacy seriously when this is how we conduct ourselves on the world stage? Can our country really afford to let George Bush run out the clock on his responsibilities at home and to the world community?
Now is the time to speak out. Write your congressman and tell them every issue that you want raised in the upcoming oversight hearings. Tell them that impeachment has to be on the table. Tell them politely, but tell them now.
If anyone has a link to the full transcript on this Press Conference, please let me know. I'm looking.
