Yesterday I finally agreed we need to move forward on impeaching and removing from office George W. Bush and his co-hort Richard B. Cheney. But I wrote that before the President delivered his speech announcing a "surge" in US troops in Iraq and in that speech he basically threatened Iran and Syria.
Without any doubt, Iran and Syria are not the friends of the United States. I have no doubt Iran finances and supports terrorism. Iran is planning to build nuclear weapons and certain Iranian leaders would love to see Israel replaced entirely by Palestine.
But these facts do not necessarily justify an expanded war that could develop into a nuclear war, at least the use of nuclear weapons, and serious worldwide terrorism that would make 9/11 look like the good old days.
Our world lived for 50 years in a Cold War with the Soviet Union with Armageddon level of nuclear arms each and we both kept that war cold through deterrence. My point is, if Iran develops nuclear weapons, we can have a MAD (Mutually Assured Destruction) policy with them. A future president could say "If Iran uses nuclear weapons on Israel or any ally of the United States, it will be considered an attack on American soil and will result in a full retaliatory nuclear attack on Iran".
The real problem is America does not want to loose economic control over the Middle East's oil supplies. That is why they want to install friendly governments there. That is fine by me if it can be done without destroying America's military readiness and foreign credibility throughout the world.
Our insane President has not learned a bitter lesson with his folly in Iraq and is now trying to create a pretext for war with Iran with a much larger military and population. As many commentators are saying today, impeachment is too slow.
The US Congress needs to aggressively challenge this President NOW by not funding an increase in soldiers in Iraq and by being prepared to take drastic action if this President starts a war with Iran without Congressional approval. We may soon be facing our own Boris Yeltsin moment in history where a courageous group of Congress people stand up against the President and encourage a military rebellion against the President - a coup. Frankly, I cannot believe I am saying this given my ardent love of our beloved US Constitution.
Our forefathers rebelled against one King George. We may need to rebel against a 21st century King George.
And if a war with Iran does not bring people into the streets, then our country is truly lost.
The White House is now the insane asylum and Americans had better wake up real soon!!
