Hello, everybody. I’ll get right to the point:
- Newly elected Senator Jim Webb knows how to really support the troops. Not content with just slapping a yellow magnet on his car while Bush sends us off to die because of
WMDs 9/11 Saddam being a dick democracy Bush’s reluctance to admit his failure, he has introduced the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2007. The Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act will pay for Veterans' tuition, books, fees, and other training costs, while also providing a monthly stipend of $1,000 for living expenses, thus making it much more possible for a large number of Veterans of Iraq and Afghanistan to be able to complete a college education and build a better life. Please give your Senators a call or email and make sure this bill is passed!
- Up until last Thursday, the Reserve components of the military had a policy that a Reservist cannot be deployed for more than 24 months out of every 5 years. The policy could be overridden if the Reservist voluntarily decided to do so. But last Thursday the Pentagon revoked the policy, saying that Reservists can now be deployed whenever Bush feels like ripping us away from our families and sent over to the sandbox.
I was reluctant to ask people to call their Congressmen over this one. As a Soldier there’s always a voice in my head telling me that I shouldn’t be a wimp, that regular Army Soldiers have been deployed 3 or 4 times (compared to my 2), and I should just suck it up. But after talking to my Army buddies, there are A LOT of pissed off Reservists who feel like they’ve already given enough to God and Country (and Oil), and don’t want to be sent away from home any longer. After all, before this war started, a Reservist being deployed twice in a decade was almost unheard of, let alone in 3 years! So give your Senators and Congressmen (if they oppose the war) a ring and tell them to make the Pentagon reinstate the 24 month policy.
Thanks!
