Let's not forget our weekly Obama, obama, obama section. The video of Barack Obama annoucing plans to run for POTUS!
One of the saddest Story I have ever read a few years ago was
At 36 of 323 Division I colleges, graduation rates for black college basketball players have hit rock bottom: zero percent. According to a 2001 NCAA study of the players entering school between 1990 and 1994, not a single black scholarship player at those schools graduated within six years. That's five straight years of recruiting class(es) (sic)
zero graduation rate schools
The story is a few years old, but I promised myself I would keep up on this issue. So what has changed? Here is last years report on graduation rates. There has been some progress made, but clearly not enough. Let's keep an eye out for this years report. Let's give it a good much needed spotlight. It should be released in the next few weeks.

African Cotton is being revived as an export industry in many Sub-Saharan African countries. This is a strange twist of fate given that most African-Americans are the decendents of slave brought to the US mainly to pick cotton.

Gamal Nkrumah son of Ghana first President writes this interesting story.
Darfur has been striken by the conflict between 'Arab' and 'African'
My father, Ghana's first President Kwame Nkrumah, was a trendsetter in more ways than one.
One of his most outstanding legacies was a political commitment to African continental unity. The Arabic-speaking states of North Africa were, in his vision, no less African than those predominantly non-Arab states south of the Sahara.

As community members spent Martin Luther King Jr.’s day of remembrance showing their support for the Bell family at a 50-day vigil, a tri-level task force, made up of members of the City Council, State Senate and Assembly and the U.S. Congress set a series of hearings to examine police practices in New York City. The task force will address topics as diverse as concern about overly-aggressive policing and the role of semiautomatic weapons in the shooting.
