I no longer subscribe or buy Time magazine. My list of grievences against this corporate rag is long. Their hiring of neocon godfather William Kristol is the straw that broke the camel's back.
I am also 180 from anything William Kristol says. If he is for something I am against it. That simple.
That said here is a a piece from his latest column about Hillary's candidacy;
"In the end, she may be able to triangulate successfully between the dangers of Muskie-esque centrism and Kerry-esque accommodation to the left. I'd bet on her if her competitors remain limited to candidates like Senators Edwards, Barack Obama, Joseph Biden and Christopher Dodd."
"But what if she faces a rival who spoke eloquently against the Iraq war from the first--yet also has a hawkish national security record? What if that man has substantial experience at the highest levels of government--and can also raise plenty of money as a candidate? What if he ran for President once before--and won the popular vote? Clinton undoubtedly dreams occasionally about the fates of Ed Muskie and John Kerry. But if she stays awake at night, it's because she's worrying about Al Gore."
Kristol is right! Yes, yes, I know about the broken clock. Still I always saw Kristol as an unhinged power mad ideologue as opposed to stupid. And here he is making sense.
IMO of all the candidates running in the Dem primary Edwards is the only one with any hope of defeating her. The rest are just going through the motions. Including Obama. Especially Obama. He is flavor of the month enjoying a media honeymoon. The honeymoon will end and his lack of experience, gravitas, lack of substance will become painfully clear.
As I said Edwards is a credible threat to Hillary. He can win the nomination.
But Edwards is nowhere as big a threat as Al Gore. If he decides to run. Gore would instantly be a credible candidate. Hell, the guy won a presidential election.
My guess is Hillary knows this. She is watching the media fawn over Obama and laughing to herself. She knows he is not a serious threat. She knows who would be a major threat to her. Al Gore.
