I took a bus from Montclair NJ to Silver Spring Maryland and rode the Metro to Union Station, which is a 10 or 15 minute walk to the Mall between the Capitol Building and the Washington Monument. Traditionally if an event fills the Mall its considered to have reached the million mark in attendance. My impression was we filled it 1/2 way, maybe more.
The first video I shot, standing on a concrete pylon, when the camera is facing the Washington Monument, you are looking, first at 3rd St. then the back of the stage, then one hell uva lot of people, then 4th St, 5th St. Then the Washington Monument.
The second video is about my trip, skipping over the much maligned reasons a 6:30 departure gets delayed by 90 minutes. (Everyone was there)but things got so stupid. >sigh<. Arriving so late,I knew I had missed any meetups I wanted to "try" to attend. As I walked from Union Station to the Mall, I asked some folks where the cane from, and it seemed the eastern half of the country was well represented. I had brought some NJ Peace Action DVDs of an event in NJ with Lt Watada's Mom, a Gitmo Lawyer. I handed DVDs out based on how far folks had traveled. Seeing as how we can get these DVDs out easily enough in NJ, I saw this as a chance to hand them out to Detriot, Wisconsin or Kansas City.</p>
But I got lucky, Thursday night the Kansas City DUers posted pics of their signs, as they got ready to board their bus. Well I recognized one sign, yelled "DU" ? Which was returned by a "Who are you". I had found some friends, in spite of the mornings travails.
