From CNN's transcript of his speech in Iraq:

I think all of us have a sense if we imagine the kind of world we would face if the people who bombed the mess hall in Mosul, or the people who did the bombing in Spain, or the people who attacked the United States in New York, shot down the plane over Pennsylvania and attacked the Pentagon, the people who cut off peoples' heads on television to intimidate, to frighten -- indeed the word "terrorized" is just that.
I really don't know what to make of this. That Flight 93 was shot down has always seemed one of the more believable 9/11 conspiracy theories, but this is the first time I've heard anyone suggest that the terrorists did it.
It could be that the conspiracy theory is right, and Rumsfeld accidentally let some of the truth slip. Or does this just show that he (like the rest of Bushco) is completely out-of-touch with reality?
In any other administration, it would be a shock that the Defense secretary doesn't even know the most basic details of the attacks that happened on his watch. But after his deputy's failure to even roughly estimate how many American troops have been killed in Iraq, perhaps we shouldn't be surprised.
