I mentioned in some comments the other day that I would be attending the Gore/Boxer fundraiser reception at the St. Francis in San Francisco on Thursday (tomorrow). I was planning to liveblog it, or at least post a diary after it was over.
But five minutes ago I received an email from Barbara Boxer, saying that Gore asked to reschedule at the last minute so that he could "travel abroad tomorrow for an exciting and urgent mission that could result in a major breakthrough in the fight against global warming".
Hmmm...
The whole email is here:
Dear Mark,
I just got a call from Vice President Al Gore. He told me that he needs to travel abroad tomorrow for an exciting and urgent mission that could result in a major breakthrough in the fight against global warming.
Unfortunately, this means that we must postpone our Thursday, October 11th event with him until Friday, November 9th. But he wanted me to tell you that he can't wait to talk to us about his trip when he comes back to San Francisco in three weeks.
While I am really disappointed that we won't see Al Gore until next month, I am thrilled that he is continuing to provide critical leadership to address one of the most pressing issues of our time. You should know that only the most urgent global warming mission has called him out of the country.
I apologize for any last-minute inconvenience that rescheduling our event may cause you, but I look forward to seeing you on November 9th so we can all hear first-hand about Al Gore's latest exciting initiatives.
Thank you so much for your continued friendship and support. See you in San Francisco next month!
Barbara Boxer
U.S. Senator
I wonder if this has anything to do with the fact that the Nobel Peace Prize will be announced late Thursday night (actually at 2am Friday morning, Pacific time)? I will post more if I can find further information.
Update: The betting odds in Sweden are 4-1 in favor of Gore getting the Nobel, btw :-)
