Al Gore and the IPCC won the Nobel Peace Prize for their work on alerting the world to the crisis of global warming.
But as one of my friends said, "I haven't seen any legislation or treaties out of Gore's work."
And he's right. The Bali convention to develop the successor to the Kyoto Protocol isn't until December. . .
The Democratic energy bill is being blocked by the GOP with no guarantee of either a Renewable Portfolio Standard or increased CAFE standards. . .
The Farm Bill that came out of the House doesn't have sustainable agriculture reforms. . .
And work on climate-change legislation is being led by polluter-friendly politicians. . .
What can we do? Step It Up on November 3!
STEP IT UP 2: November 3 National Climate Day of Action
On November 3rd, Americans will demand real leadership on global warming. From coast to coast, we'll rally in our communities and invite our politicians to join us. We'll see who rises to the occasion and who has a real plan to tackle the defining challenge of our time. One year before the election, let's make sure the world witnesses our national call to action: | |
STEP IT UP: It's Time for Climate Leaders!
|
WHAT TO DO:
- Get In On the Action
Check here to see if there's a rally in your local area that you can help out with. If there isn't, sign up to start one. Step It Up can help you do it - it's super easy, and there's still plenty of time before November 3rd.
- Invite the Leaders
If there is a rally in your community, flood your local Congressperson or Senator with invitations to come speak. We also need to invite Presidential candidates to Step It Up rallies all over the country.
- Show them our Plan
At rallies across the country, Step It Up will show them our plan for fighting global warming, and we'll demand to see theirs. On November 3rd, we'll get to see who is a real leader, and who is just a politician.
THE STEP IT UP PLAN
The Step It Up plan is scientifically founded and strongly progressive, developed with the 1 Sky initiative:
- Green Jobs Now: 5 million green jobs conserving 20% of our energy by 2015
- Cut Carbon 80% by 2050: Freeze climate pollution levels now and cut at least 80% by 2050 and 30% by 2020
- No New Coal: A moratorium on new coal-fired power plants
