On Monday, October 22nd, right-wing talk show host Michael Medved will be broadcasting his radio program out of Riverside, California's Cafe Sevilla. This event is being sponsored by the Inland Empire's local "news-talk" radio station 590 KTIE, and they're charging $5.90 (plus tip and tax) per plate to people who go.
What if Michael Medved, Cafe Sevilla, and NewsTalk 590 KTIE threw a big party live on the air...
...and no one showed up?
I live in Riverside myself. I've went to Cafe Sevilla when they first opened, and many of my colleagues love their sangria. I know the Inland Empire of Southern California is conservative, but I still hate the idea of one of these right-wing propagandists coming to my city to poison the nation's airwaves.
Let's show Michael Medved, Cafe Sevilla, and NewsTalk 590 KTIE that their venom won't play in Riverside.
This event is by reservation... but it's a public reservation form (click link). What if Kossacks from across the nation reserved seating at this event, and no one showed?
It seems this would serve three purposes:
- Michael Medved would be on the air at a "live" event... with no live audience to cheer him on; and,
- Cafe Sevilla would lose their share of the revenue for supporting this right-wing wingnut; and
- NewTalk 590 KTIE would lose their share of the revenue, as well.
Talk-radio hosts and their stations continually trumpet how they're driven by the market, how they "succeed" while left-wing radio "fails because there's no market for it". Let's use that against them.
In addition to reserving seating at this event, contact Cafe Sevilla of Riverside's General Manager Vanesa Wolcoff at vanesa.wolcoff@cafesevilla.com and let her know how you feel about her restaurant supporting hate-radio.
