I posted a comment a few days ago that I felt I needed to expand on. It was in a Draft Gore article, but I spoke from the heart then, and felt it was pertinent....I still do....
But some people wanted to tell me that Our current candidates were just fine, There's no reason for Gore to enter the race, There's no room, "Out come the knives".
In reality, The knives were coming out to those of us so damn picky that we aren't happy with the current slate of boring that we are preparing to run with. More after the jump.
You see, there are some of us progressive types that believe we can always do better, we like to think of it as hold our party to a higher standard. To many of us, the current "rockstar" candidates would all make fine presidents, but lack a personal touch, or depth.
This is why we support Gore. He upholds our progressive values, motivates us to great things, brings intense energy to the job, speaks for the greater good, not political godhood, and he gives us a vision for the future.
He has not flip flopped on any discussion of Iraq, even before we began that folly, nor has he pandered to the "fear" power of Iran.
People, we stood up to Nazi germany, and Soviet Russia, and we're supposed to fear Iran!?!?!
Is that the best fear we can find?
Al Gore rejects these fear driven campaigns, and rejects the use of hysteria as a ruling tactic. He has based his campaigns on reason, intellect, and science. He doesn't make decisions lightly.
Dare I say had he been president, the leadup to 9-11 would've been taken seriously, and likely prevented. Many forget that our current President was tired of "Swatting at flies" with regard to terrorist threats.
Some of us out here in the progressive community want a better candidate.
We Want Al Gore.
