How in the world do you stay with the President on this issue? This is not about "socialized medicine" or "expanding the role of government health care" this is about providing children and their parents with the ability to pay for health care.
Bush makes the claim that Congress is doing nothing and that they need to work with him on this bill and come up with some sort of compromise. Compromise Mr. 24%? How about you compromise and stop being so inflexible about bringing troops home? Three months of Iraq would pay this bill and yet you claim it costs to much.
People have no faith in the government anymore because when it comes to priorities, well anyone inside the beltway does not know what it is like to decide between feeding their children and getting them health care. Surely people would like to pay for them both, but when the government decides that war is better idea than providing for the health of our own children in this country, than something is not just wrong, it is incomprehensible.
This is not a Democrat or a Republican issue, this is about children! Oh but Republicans will say that children can not vote and will not know what is going with this issue. But I have bad news for every single member of the House of Representatives that decide to uphold the veto.
Go home and talk with your constituents, and explain to them why you decided that children do not need health care. Tell them why you are against band aids and for bombs. Good luck explaining that to people, because I have no idea how you can do it. How every single member that voted against this bill will sleep at night is beyond me. Everyday I read about and hear stuff like this, is it any wonder why the common citizen has lost faith in the government's ability to take care of its own people?
In closing, I hope that Democrats do not compromise one iota on SCHIP. But I have my doubts, and will assume that they will just like they have on the war.
