At a bare minimum, they need to be willing to vote to sustain the filibuster. Anything less says "I am not willing to stand strong against George W. Bush's assault on the Constitution." Leadership would entail participating. - MissLaura
Right now is the time for them to respond...do they stand with Dodd or with George Bush? - BarbinMD
I'm tired of words. At this point, the only thing that speaks is action. - kos
I'm tired of words too. I'm also tired of bullshit Bush style you're-with-us-or-you're-against-us framing. That seems to be Standard Operating Procedure on the front page now, so I guess I'll play along.
Let's examine some failures of leadership brought to us by Senator Chris Dodd.
Resolution supporting the goals and ideals of Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month. Dodd's name does not appear on the list of co-sponsors. Who is affected by sickle cell disease?
Sickle cell disease primarily affects those of African descent and Hispanics of Caribbean ancestry, but the trait has also been found in those with Middle Eastern, Indian, Latin American, Native American, and Mediterranean heritage.
Why is Dodd ignoring a disease which primarily affects non-caucasians? His failure to stand with Obama on this issue shows an appalling lack of leadership on minority issues. Take action, Mr. Senator.
Resolution designating July 12, 2007, as "National Summer Learning Day." Why does Dodd hate learning? A true leader would have co-sponsored this bill.
Innovation Districts for School Improvement. More proof that Dodd doesn't give a damn about education.
Summer Term Education Programs for Upward Performance Act of 2007. I'm noticing a trend here. Children can't read but Dodd doesn't think it's important.
Oil Subsidy Elimination for New Strategies on Energy Act. By failing to stand with Obama on this bill, Dodd stood with Bush and the oil companies.
Lane Evans Veterans Health and Benefits Improvement Act of 2007. 15 senators stood with Obama to improve benefits for veterans. Dodd couldn't find the time to add his name to the list.
American Fuels Act of 2007. Dodd once again sides with Bush to back Big Oil.
Deceptive Practices and Voter Intimidation Prevention Act of 2007. This is a bill to prohibit deceptive practices in Federal elections. Dodd supported the GOP's attempts to disenfranchise American voters. I guess protecting that part of the Constitution isn't on Dodd's agenda.
Transparency and Accountability in Military and Security Contracting Act of 2007. Obama believes in accountability and enhanced congressional oversight for personnel performing private security functions under Federal contracts. Dodd apparently doesn't.
VA Hospital Quality Report Card Act of 2007. Dodd, where is your leadership on veterans' issues? They were injured in the war you authorized. You should take responsibility and stand up for the vets you put in harm's way.
Dignity for Wounded Warriors Act of 2007. 35 senators co-sponsored this bill. guess who doesn't give a damn about dignity for wounded warriors. Shame on you, Senator Dodd.
Voter Advocate and Democracy Index Act of 2007. This is a bill to amend the Help America Vote Act of 2002 in order to measure, compare, and improve the quality of voter access to polls and voter services. Why doesn't Dodd care about access to polls?
Fuel Economy Reform Act. Dodd hearts Big Oil.
Homes for Heroes Act of 2007. This bill provide housing assistance for very low-income veterans. Veterans don't matter in Dodd World.
National Low-Carbon Fuel Standard Act of 2007. Ouch. Big Oil wins again thanks to their favorite senator.
Feel free to look through the rest of the bills Dodd is failing to back.
I don't honestly believe that Dodd is ignoring these issues. I don't consider his failure to co-sponsor these and hundreds of other bills as a failure of leadership. I don't think that his failure to stand with Obama on these issues means that he "stands with Bush." I think the entire concept of this framing is bullshit and it doesn't belong on a site claiming to belong to the Reality Based Community. Unfortunately, the Front Page is setting the tone. It's our duty to follow.
