The Republicans today decided that the most important order of business was to censure Rep. Pete Stark for telling the truth in his statements regarding Bush's treatment of our troops. The Democratic leadership, rather than telling the republicans to crawl back into their holes, decided it would be worthwhile to bring this piece of crap to the floor for a vote. Josh Marshall has some details and a video link here: http://tpmelectioncentral.com/...
The vote to censure failed 196-173 but that didn't stop Stark from apologizing anyhow. He goes on to say that he hopes he can return to being as insignificant as he should be. Is this the epitome of weakness or what?
Could someone please explain how apologizing for speaking the truth to power is supposed to disprove the meme that Democrats are cowering weaklings?
Rather than apologizing to Bush, Stark should have called for his impeachment after the censure vote failed. But that would have required some backbone.
