I avoid the MSM. THe last time I paid close attention was during Katrina. So I tuned in today to find out about the latest natural disaster And after a day of watching, at last. Someone's asking. This is the FIRST time I've seen any traditional media ask the questions. MSNBC's Abram's said hey, look, maybe we don't have the people or equipment. Is the war in Iraq is straining our ability to fight natural disasters at home? That's what Boxer says and that's what the Governor of Kansas said after tornadoes ripped around her state.
Oh, it's a BIG STRETCH, says Congressman Hunter, one of the Republicans he's interviewing. We have all these marines at Pendleton after all, but we're not using them. We don't stop the wall of flames with bodies. It's a natural disaster! A BIG one.
But Abrams isn't letting it go. There were National Guard pulled up from the border, he pointed out. So why, if the bodies aren't important, are we bringing the National Guard up from the border? Oh huh, says Hunter. We are giving the guys from the border to give them a break. Seriously. That is what he said.
Well, I believe our army national guard doesn't have what it needs, says THE OTHER Republican.
Joan Walsh from Salon is doing great too...quoting past articles worrying about the lack of resources in the past.
It sounds like Congressman Hunter is the only one who's certain that the War in Iraq has not affected our ability to deal with crises at home. Everyone's polite but no one is just taking the word that it's All Okay. About goddamn time.
OH boy! and now Abram's doing waste in Iraq. A billion dollars unaccounted for. It might as well be REAL NEWS going on now. Wow. I'm not used to this. I got so tired of news organizations not asking questions. it was bad for my blood pressure so I stopped watching . . well, interesting. Heh. And he uses bloggers as pundits.
I should watch more often again.
