This is partially a WA State issue since we have to deal with the idiot known as The Eyman, but concerns a larger issue of rights for all of our citizens. I am outraged he would even consider this. I guess once you get a taste of real money, your soul is the first thing to go. I have a list of explitives that I am keeping to myself!
Summary:
After something like 25 years, a bill protecting gays has passed in WA State. About time IMO. But now Eyman is proposing putting a ballot initiative to repeal the law. To say I am pissed is an understatement. Read on for more background and information.
Question:
Any other Washingtonians out there who want to work to stomp his initiative?
Background:
Eyman got the public eye a few years ago by getting a measure passed that made car tabs cost only $30 instead of a percentage of your cars value. I was ok with paying a couple hundred dollars to help fund public transportation and road projects. But I could see how it would be unfair to seniors who paid a lot for their RVs. Anyways, the state refused to make any concessions and the measure passed.
Since then Eyman has been nothing but a pain in the ass IMO. He has jumped the shark. Perhaps it was the fact that he paid himself a salary of $200K while insisting he was a volunteer. Perhaps it was his trying to kill the gas tax that is to help pay for a new 520, I=90 repairs, and new Alaskan Way Viaduct.
At any rate I was done with him and thought he was a joke...until I heard ready this:
Before Gov. Christine Gregoire picks up her pen to sign a gay civil rights bill into law today, Tim Eyman will have set in motion a signature drive to give voters a chance to veto the legislation at the polls in the fall.
This sums it up nicely:
"I'm just a guy who's partially disabled and who has laws set up out there to protect my rights to live as a human, not as some second-class citizen," he said. "I'm glad the Disability Act was established before Tim Eyman came along or I'd still be fighting high curbs in crosswalks.
