God delivered me from homosexuality...
No, Mr. McClurkin, God did not deliver you from homosexuality, nor did she any of your fellow "ex-gay", "I have seen the light" counterparts. God (nor anyone or thing else) needs to deliver anyone from homosexuality. Perhaps though, what is needed is deliverance from self-righteous, guilt ridden, hypocritical theocracists.
You are NOT ex-gay. You have simply allowed a bunch of bigots who use their religion as an excuse for their hatred to push you back into the closet under the guise of what they try to legitimize by calling it “reparative therapy”.
Repair what? The normal, ages-old inclination of some to find attraction toward and emotional intimacy with the same sex?
LISTEN – pushing people into the closet using intimidation, fear, guilt and the like is nothing new. It is NOT reparative and people that go back into the closet as result of your tactics are NOT “ex-gay”.
They are simply living in a bigger, more transparent closet. BUT it is still a closet.
Religious zealots have been keeping gays and many others buried and hidden for a long, long time. Dressing it up as “ex gay” and “reparative healing” does not change the basic bigotry.
You can make up (http://www.narth.com/...) all the pseudoscience designed to look like real research but that is also designed to only support your underlying prejudice, but it does not change anything. You can selectively ignore all of the legitimate research you want, but that too does not change that science and reason do not support your views or your tactics.
You are just finding another way to try to conceal your dark and ugly hatred for others by trying to dress it up as science.
You are just finding another way to try to conceal your dark and ugly hatred for YOURSELF by trying to dress it up as science and taking it out on others.
(Cali Techie said it better in a comment below.)
You can line up the testimony of “ex-gay” and “ex-lesbians” now married to one another and trying to make the best of it while most admit they are still attracted to the same sex.
It is not new.
It is just a new way of building the closet.
“Reparative Therapy” = The New Scarlet Letter.
The “Ex-Gay Movement” = The New Closet.
I tell you what. You, and NARTH ("National Association for Research and Therapy of Homosexuality") and Mr. Obama, who will now never stand a chance of getting my vote because of his letting you spout your crap from his stage, can all go crawl back into your sanctimonious closets.
Scream as loud as you want to from inside and just see if we do not all take note that as loud as you scream, you are still doing it from inside that closet – and Mr. Obama can scream with you.
His closet may be even worse because, you see, you do not have to be gay to construct a closet in which to hide. Hiding who you truly are is a terrible thing; hiding a total lack of courage in your own convictions is abhorrent.
