I always used to love Atrios' "Torture Lou Dobbs" link and loved following it and seeing how Eschaton readers messed with Lou's idiotic poll questions.
But Lou found a way around the attentions of Atrios readers -- he shifted away from questions that were at least half-way reasonably worded and started writing questions in such a way that no sane person could possibly choose either response. (This did not present a problem for the vast majority of regular visitors to Dobbs' site, or of course to Lou himself.) So Duncan eventually left Lou to his own devices.
Anyway, today's question is one that sane people actually can and should respond to. It is "Do you believe states giving away drivers' licenses to illegal aliens is simply an attempt to expedite massive voter fraud?" And right now it's running 94% in favor of paranoid racist demagoguery. [Update: a new question is up now.]
I know this isn't the most important issue of the day, and it's certainly not the most important diary. But, hey, just for old times' sake, let's TORTURE LOU DOBBS!
(Obviously, this can only have an impact if at least several hundred, and hopefully several thousand of us do it, so don't be shy with the "recommend" button if the spirit moves you.)
Update 2: I would have thought that some things don't need to be argued or explained. The Earth is spherical. The Holocaust happened. Evolution is the mechanism by which life has reached its current state of diversity, even if there is still much to learn about it. Bush lied about WMDs. People who spend most of their time obsessing about and attacking society's weakest members using ancient canards shameless fearmongering are racists.
The wonderful Nightprowlkitty adds in the comments:
I am very disturbed...
... that anyone at this site would try even remotely to defend Lou Dobbs.
I highly urge anyone interested to read duke1676's diary on Dobbs. Dobbs has been spreading egregious right-wing memes on immigration -- there is no excuse or justification for this, and certainly there is NO basis in what Dobbs says to have an informed discussion on immigration any more than one could have a discussion based on what Tancredo has said.
I am surprised anyone would defend Dobbs' views here at Daily Kos. There is nothing liberal, progressive, or Democratic about them.
Nightprowlkitty also has taken the time to explain what is so wrong the Dobbs' style immigrant bashing in the comments below. She says it better than I could -- thanks!
Update: Since I posted this about a half hour ago, 100 more people have voted in Lou's "quick vote", of whom 17 voted "no." That's us. Unfortunately, that wasn't nearly enough to change the overall percent, with over 11,000 votes already cast.
