I'm sick of this crap. The argument that we are fighting in Iraq so that we don't have to fight them here, is totally lame and a complete lie.
In the 1700's we faught them here. They crossed "oceans" to get at us, and against all odds we won (some thanks go out to the French, but that's another story).
During the 1800's we faught them here. Once again they crossed oceans and attacked our shores. They actually burned the White House during the War of 1812. Later in the century, we faught them here again. They were us as North faught South, so the outcome was somewhat predetermined that we would prevail.
In the 1900's we faught them here on several occassions. Not sure about WWI, but WWII was faught in Hawaii, off the East Coast, off the Gulf Coast, and even the West coasts of Alaska and California (thats alot of oceans for those paying attention). From watching Ken Burn's PBS Documentary, I learned that the Nazi submarine's pummelled ships on the East Coast, and that the submarine commanders were astonished to find out that the East Coast cities were not blacked out at night which made the German's job easier. The cities thought that this would hurt "tourism". During the end of the 1900's we faught them in New York City as the World Trade Centers were bombed. On the eve of the 21st century, we stifled an attack that was to be at LAX.
And then, shortly after Mr. Decider decided that he didn't need to be concerned about Intelligence Breifings and other such nonsence, we were hit pretty good again on 9/11.
And now the Bush Administration and RNC pundits like to throw out the talking point that "We are fighting them in Iraq so we don't have to fight them here".
I'm tired of hearing this crap.
I want to fight them here. Whether they are Islamic Terrorist, Nazi Fascists, Communist Guerrilla's, etc. I don't care, if somebody wants to invade my country, bring it on, I'll support my country 100%.
And furthermore, I want my government to want to fight them here. I want my government to prepare for that fight. That means a military that stays here and defends our country. That means a National Guard that stays here and defends our country. That means a CIA, and FBI, and a Justice Department free from politicization so that they can perform their functions, as designed.
The current administration is using "wordplay" to make them appear like they are strong. They are using "wordplay" to frame the debate. It's a stupid debate. Iraq has nothing to do with terrorists and America and safety. It's always been about a bunch of different things, including Bush's daddy, oil, contractor profits, and making Republicans look strong.
Let's chage the debate. I want to fight them here, because this is my country, and damn them if they try to harm it. I want to end the stupid massive Foreign Policy expenditures that cause us to spend less on protecting our country and people. I want to fight them here, because we live here. I want to fight them here, because, we have always fought them here. We are prosecuting cases today in our Judicial System of those who are presumed to want to fight us here. There will be more in the future, and if we're over there running around trying to figure out who were fighting, then were not using our resources to the best of our abilities.
Next time somebody tells you we're fighting them over there so we don't have to fight them here, tell them that is stupid and that they should want to fight them here. Let's fight under our terms, not theirs.
