How many more "Inevitable HRC" front pagers from Markos must we have to endure?!
Up until now, the MSM has virtually given Hillary Clinton's views & positions on the primary trail a pretty tame ride. Very rarely has Hillary ever been in a position throughout her POTUS bid thus far, in which she is confronted in the public eye with the real tough questions. Very rarely is she ever forced out of her canned comfort zone. The few times she has been however, it's been a VERY startling look at the truth behind the masks. We saw it at YearlyKos, we saw it in Iowa when a man asked about Kyl/Lieberman & we saw it a few nights ago in the debate.
DailyKos & the progressive blogosphere have a history of generally being out ahead of the MSM curve. The MSM has been saying HRC is inevitable because of all her name recognition, her vast experience in the limelight, her time in the whitehouse & because she's Bill's wife.
Here in the progressive blogosphere, the general sentiment is we recognize that 2007 is NOT 1997. It's a whole new world. Less people are tuning into major TV news programming than ever before, while more people are getting their news from the internet & alternative newsources by leaps & bounds. In short, it's ALOT easier for the average citizens to cut through the crap and find out what the candidates are really about.
We no longer live in a world in which it's exceptable to get behind someone who can simply crap a good rainbow and have a great carsales pitch. Those days are over.
Your hard pressed to find anyone in this country under the age of 40, whose not an avid fan of The Daily Show and/or The Cobert Report.
Polls are fine & serve their purposes but consider this, it's 2007....how many people under the age of 40 even HAVE a landline anymore? I USED to get polled all the time, when I had a landline...YEARS ago. Since I discontinued it, I haven't been polled once.
Without the mass explotion of the internet, George Allen would have been re-elected and on the POTUS trail, Joe Lieberman would have won his primary, Howard Dean wouldn't be DNC chairman, Jon Tester would still be farming & Jeff Gannon would still be availible to meet you in a hotel for $1000.00 a weekend. I could go on & on....but you get the point...
The past 2 weeks the MSM has finally been coming around to the realization that HRC isn't as brillant as they have perceived. In fact, the curtain has been pulled back to them(a curtain most of us saw behind long ago) and what they are seeing is shocking them. They do not see an inevitable nominee, they do not see someone who can answer the tough questions with clarity & integrity. They are finally seeing what most of us have known for quite sometime now.
So what does Markos do? He issues a front pager that titles, "Press writes off Hillary, public disagrees"
Ummmmmm.....(crickets)...........

.................................................................
SAY WHAT?!
I'm just baffeled as to why Kos would take such a regressive, backwards attitude on all of this. What is the purpose of this article? "Oh John Edwards & Barack Obama aren't really doing THAT much better" "HRC didn't REALLY stumble...in fact, she's even doing better NOW!" "It's cool that Edwards & Obama are venting more, even though we all know HRC's gonna win" etc....
What's going on Kos? Are you prepping the community for an HRC endorsement within the next 2 months? How is this crashing the gates?! How are these front pagers contributing to the direction most of us here want the Democratic party to go in?
This primary is far from over. 2 months in primary time, might as well be like 2 years.
Like some of you here at Daily Kos, I first got involved with the Howard Dean campaign in 2003, when he was a mere blip in the polls....we stayed hopeful and kept our noses to the grindstone. We had a vision that togather, that we were going to reform the party...and before we knew it, Howard Dean was a national phenomenon & consequentially, our voices & opinons were being heard loud and clear by the establishment. Though Dean didn't win the primary, we STILL gained a tremendous amount of ground, Dean's POTUS campaign springboarded him into the DNC chairmanship & revolutionized the relationship between the internet & political power.
So why on earth, 2 months out from the first primary votes, is Kos downplaying the recent successes of John Edwards & the MSM's usual 'better late than never' realizations about the primary?! Has Kos' cynicism gotten so great that hope is all but abandoned this prematurely?
To me, this is a path to that undermines the principles of why i'm here.
Like we used to say in the Dean campaign, "Ya gotta believe!"
There's plenty of time for anything to happen, and don't let any pundit, tv show or blog personality tell you diffently.
The more we believe in possibilities, the more we are empowered, the more we are empowered, the more things change. The time is now to stand up and fight for your party.
(I know i'm not the most skilled diarist. Thanks for reading.
Warm regards...)
