No matter how hard I try I can’t shake the Sunday Talk addiction even though every week I bellow at my poor girlfriend that it’s the absolute last time I will put myself through it, etc...
But here I go this morning tuning into "Meet the Press" to see the Very. Serious. Panel handing down their Very Serious Primary Campaign Observations to the rabble out there in neverland and it’s hard to know where to begin with this bunch...but I’ll start with Mary Matalin.
Why on Earth does this woman still get platforms to spout her condescending gibberish? I’m sorry but I cannot take any grown-up supporting Fred Thompson seriously...if that makes me an "elitist liberal" then so be it. I’m certain that even in W’s dumbed-down America you have to have more qualifications to be President than a tepid, mostly forgotten Senate career, a trophy wife and a so-called "presidential aura" gleaned from your resume as a C-list actor. Right? You at least have to know that the Soviet Union is and has been gone for well over a decade. Don’t you? Apparently not to Mary Matalin someone that incredibly has fooled NBC into thinking she has any credibility. My favorite part was when Russert read off Thompson’s hideous poll numbers in Iowa and New Hampshire and said "When is he actually going to win?" and Matalin rolled her eyes and said "you Beltway bloviators like to..." Stop right there. Does she actually think that she speaks for "normal people", or the mythical heartland, and is somehow not of the dreaded Beltway class she condemns? It boggles the mind when people EMBEDDED SO DEEP INSIDE THE BELTWAY COCKTAILS AND WAR CIRCUIT DARE talk about the "DC Establishment" with contempt...that insults my intelligence more than pimping the candidacy of some embalmed suit with narcolepsy ...but then in her adroitly arrogant attempt to find good news somewhere, anywhere for Thompson she cites an article from you guessed it: the Washington Post!!
Then there’s her mumbling, stumbling husband who still continually gets called upon as an "objective" observer of the Democratic race when he is clearly, firmly in the Clinton Camp. I can’t forget about Bob "Kiss of Death" Shrum and his sterling record of cautious counsel and consent that have produced nothing but Democratic failures. I’m sorry, Bob, because you seem like a nice and genuinely passionate liberal but the DLC, Centrist DC brand of politics that you advocate have given us nothing...well except the Bush/Cheney abomination.
I made the mistake of flipping to "This Week" (a show I usually like) just in time to see a smiley, shiny John McCain war-mongering at Syria and Iran even though there are reports that the governments of both countries have tightened their borders and clamped down on the influx of illicit weapons and fighters. Not to mention the cold-hard proof uncovered by the recent raid that many of the insurgents are citizens of good ole Saudi-Arabia, our tireless and dedicated allies. I didn’t hear that mentioned at all. I blacked out the 10’ o clock hour but I regained my composure enough to hear Mike Huckabee basically say there will never be peace between Israel and the Palestinians. He thinks the Arabs should be prepared and eager to bargain in good faith even though, according to him, the West Bank and Golan Heights are not even on the table and when Wolf Blitzer pressed him to say no or yes to the "two state solution" he said it depended on where that state would be. Wow. How about Alaska?
I just don’t know what to do next. I get most of news from the web and sites like Kos, TPM, etc but it makes me shiver to know that large swaths of America is getting their news from hacks with agendas and talents for half-stories and distortions. I’m ready to tune out of everything
