Bonjour.
Edwards and Obama supporters are spinning their wheels, creating an ideal environment for Hillary to coast through to the democratic nomination.
Let's not let our desire for a better country sink us into another 4-to-8 year quagmire this year !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Recent Iowa polls show the top three contenders in a dead heat. Both Obama and Edwards supporters appear to agree that Hillary is fairly detestible and that she cannot take clear positions on issues, that she takes lobbyist money and plants people in audiences to make herself seem better than she really is.
Fact: Edwards and Obama supporters appear to agree that Hillary is a deeply flawed candidate.
Fact: Edwards and Obama supporters also appear to love their candidate for various reasons.
Fact: Edwards and Obama appear to have fairly similar messages. Some might disagree but I believe it is safe to say they are closer to one another than either to Hillary. This is further evidenced by their seeming unwillingness to attack each other even though they are very close in the polls.
Fact: The non-Hillary vote is split between Edwards and Obama.
Fact: Hillary would be losing by 20% or more, at least in Iowa, if Edwards and Obama supporters could unite behind a single candidate. As it stands now, she is actually AHEAD by a little over either candidate.
Fact: If Edwards and Obama supporters do not get behind one or the other candidate then Hillary has a much better chance of walking away with the nomination, to the detriment of the country.
Fact: It would be ironic as hell if a candidate whom the clear majority agree is unsatisfactory were to end up winning because the other candidates could not agree on a single candidate.
Fact: Hillary might be the least electible of all the democratic candidates in 2008 because of her baggage from Bill and her apparent similarity to Bush, and her nomination might be the biggest (and only!) chance the Republicans will have to win the white house in 2008.
Conclusion: Edwards and Obama supporters should unite and get behind one candidate before it is too late.
Side note/Announcement of bias: Personally I would love if Edwards could win, because he has run the best campaign so far, has taken the clearest position on the issues and has a bit more experience than Obama. However, if supporting one or the other means we have to live with Hillary for 9 months and then another Republican for 4 years after that, then I say, let's have a little foresight.
Flame me if you will, but you know I have a point.
Your thoughts please. And, which candidate should it be, if any?
