At our local Dem Party meeting tonight, the PCO (Precinct Committee Officer) related a story about talking to the GOP. Keep in mind this is an
extremely Republican area, and thanks to our PCO, we're just beginning to build a Dem Party organization here.
He went to a local Home Show this past weekend. The GOP had a booth set up manned by volunteers, and he wandered over to see what they were up to. The following exchange took place:
GOP: Are you a registered voter?
PCO: Yes.
GOP: Do you vote?
PCO: I've voted in every election since I was old enough.
GOP: May I ask your party affiliation?
PCO. Sure. I learned about politics a long time ago - about the same time I learned to drive. That's when I learned that 'R' makes you go backwards and 'D' makes you go forwards.
GOP: <Stunned silence>
That's my contribution so far to the political process: he got the line from my wife who got it from me, and I got it from someone here or possibly at Eschaton (I believe the original setup was "Voting is like driving:")
I wish I had kept the name of the person I got the line from. Thanks - whoever you are.
My wife added tonight: N is for Nader - no matter how hard you try you're going nowhere.
