This morning driving to Starbucks, listening to my local Air America program I smile at the dem who called in to report a phone call with a Republican neighbor. "The guy was so hopping mad! He said he wouldn't vote Republican come November"
Yesss. More. More of that please. And that is why Impeachment is stupid, stupid, stupid.
It is so fundamental anyone who has boiled water can understand it.
You put a pot of water on the stove and before long little bubbles spring up. If you keep the heat on, the water eventually boils over. The Democrats want to keep the pot boiling. They do not want it to boil over. Because if it boils over that Republic voter, and most of the Democratic ones as well, will have their anger released. Frustrtation vented, they won't be so motivated to ring doorbells, work in campaigns, and send hard earned money to candidates.
The goal isn't to have a little feel good by impeaching a known villain and asshole. The goal is to win back Congress and the Presidency!! It is to reclaim the reins of power.
Now, I ask you, what do you want: some payback or some real power to change things in America.
Of course, impeachment is Right. And of course, Cheney deserves it. No one in America today argues otherwise. But it is like cutting off your nose to spite your face. There. I gotcha!!!! Woohoo.
Oh shit, now I can't breathe.
So what do you fucking want? The repeal of the Patriot Act, Supreme Court Justices who support democracy and a woman's right to choose, the end of across the board wiretapping of citizens, the return of competency and experience to the civil service, an energy and environment policy that doesn't bow to Big Oil, the end of the War in Iraq, healthcare for all our citizens, Social Security Safety, an economic policy that helps the middle class and restores the dollar in the world?
Or would you rather impeach Cheney, and have about 5 minutes of notoriety and then watch the pot boil over and all the anger and frutatration that could be utilized to back Democratic candidates get squandered in a little feel good grandstanding.
Again. Of course he deserves it. Of course, our democracy is in trouble. But is a moment of "feel good" worth four years of real, positive and needed change?
If you think it isn't, you can forgo the impeachment scenario.
Maybe you don't care. Maybe you are so angry you want impeachment at any price. And maybe that is exactly what the Republicans hope you chose.
