Pelosi's threatening to give Bush $50,000,000,000 more for Iraq, and this time she's serious!
It boggles the mind that our leadership in Congress continues to take Republican talking points seriously and tries to work with an opposition party and president who have made it abundantly clear that they are not interested or inclined to work with them.
Sad to say, only the Republicans have divined the secret of modern bipartisanship. First, remain intransigent. Then, let the other side move in your direction. Then, keep letting the other side move in your direction until they've reached your position. Finally, begrudgingly, agree with them, and let them proclaim bipartisan victory. Afterwards, everyone go out for a beer, slap each other on the back, and congratulate one another on some good legislatin'.

This one-sided reflexive bipartisanship of the Democratic leadership is as ideological and detached from reality as the delusions of George Bush. When has it worked with this administration and GOP? Even Boehner agrees with me. He says it's "backward and irresponsible." No, wait, that was Pelosi's plan he was talking about, not her responsible-leader kumbaya ju-jitsu.
But let us console ourselves. Even if we don't agree with their approach, Nancy's move is evidence that we now have our leaders standing up to take responsibility and do what they were elected to do. Right? And Harry's got her back. In that same article, the illustrious and wily Senator Reid "said he did not want to approve a spending measure for Iraq unless it forced a change in Bush's policies." Not exactly fightin' words, but hey, that's Harry Reid playing hardball. They're representin' now, right?
Not quite. 'When asked whether approving such a spending measure was possible, considering the razor-thin majority Democrats hold in the Senate, Reid said it 'is up to the White House and up to the Republicans.'" There you go. It's up to Bush and the Republicans. The Democratic Majority is just not majority enough. We're waiting till we have a Democratic one-party state. Then you'll see!
Unfortunately, it seems that Harry and Nancy took a lesson in leadership from today's Republicans for whom failure is always somebody else's fault, and the buck stops nowhere.
