What to do when the rain won't come? If you're Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, you pray. The governor will host a prayer service next week to ask for relief from the drought gripping the Southeast.
Praying to the Gods for rain was common in Ancient Greece, the Roman Empire, and apparently modern day Georgia. Good governors are policy wonks who look for solutions to problems. When solutions don’t exist they do their best to deal with the fallout of the problem. They don’t hold a public prayer asking for rain! The people of Georgia didn’t elect God governor of Georgia, they elected you, Sonny Purdue, so it is your problem to deal with this, not his. There is no evidence there is a God, let alone a God that hears prayers, let alone a God that responds to prayers! I don’t have a problem with him praying to God before hitting the sheets at night, but in his capacity as Governor of Georgia he should look for slightly more scientific solutions to his state’s problems.
