I'd like to extend a hearty and well-meaning "Happy Holidays" to my Democratic Congress Critters as they look to wrap up business and journey to their respective homes for a well-deserved break.
The trees will be decorated, wreaths and stockings will be hung, and any children and family will be all smiles, hugs and kisses as they celebrate the holidays with their loved ones.
And why shouldn't they? Their Democratic spouse and parent will have finally achieved that elusive "compromise" they've been yearning for since Bush took office. They will have successfully achieved funding for governmental programs at the cost of a few pet projects and pork expenditures, as well as continuing the war.
But hey. Omelets, eggs, something about breaking and all that.
And it's doubly important -- even triply important -- that the Congress Critters enjoy this holiday season as much as possible.
Because
Matthew K. Reece's family won't have a great deal to celebrate this holiday season.
Neither will the family of Kyle Dayton.
Or Dewayne L. White's family.
Nor the family of Eric J. Hernandez.
And probably not the family of Adam P. Snyder.
You see, Democratic Congress Critters, these are the soldiers who have died thus far in December, as per the DoD confirmation statements. So odds are, the family members of these fallen soldiers will not be enjoying the holiday break.
That's why it's so important -- so vital -- for you to enjoy the holidays as much as possible.
Take your children sledding, maybe build a snowman if weather permits.
Enjoy a lovely fire with your spouse, maybe with a nice glass of wine.
Have a family dinner, catch up on your children's lives.
Make sure to take the time to appreciate how lucky you are, how blessed your life is.
And don't let a pesky thing like 5 destroyed families (so far) ruin your holidays.
Don't think about how your constant capitulation and "compromising" is putting soldiers' lives at risk for no good reason.
Don't let that take the joy out of your sledding outings, nor make a dent in the deliciousness of your eggnog.
Because there are currently five more families this month who will not be able to enjoy their holidays.
Five more families who will be planning funerals while you're planning dinners, trying to cope with staggering loss while you're trying to cope with icy sidewalks.
So, Democrats.
Do try and enjoy your break.
By God, you've earned it.
