Ok, so it's a bit early for pondering the various choices for cabinet posts in the upcoming, goes without saying, Democratic adminstration. However, I cannot be the only one around here whose grown bored with playing My Candidate Is Better Than Yours, and its sister sport, Your Candidate Sucks.
So join me in a first round of Pick the Cabinet. It is fun, competitive and can be played virtually anywhere. In this first set, the idea is to start floating plausible names that will likely rise to the top no matter who becomes the nominee (unless you're a Gravel Gal). Once we pick a nominee, I will deal another hand of Pick the Cabinet, and then more rounds as election and inauguration days near. Last round, I will award prizes to those who come closest to correctly filling all 16 slots. Team work is encouraged. Here we go...
Simply review the list of the main cabinet positions and fill in as many posts as you feel comfortable with this early in the game. I will keep score. Again, once we have a nominee, this game will produce more realistic lists based on the nominee's past and present advisors and supporters. Nevertheless, even this early, I think there may be some obvious and some supremely wise choices no matter who we ultimately nominate. Here's the list of the cabinet posts:
Agency Secretary | Your Pick |
1. State | |
2. Treasury | |
3. Defense | |
4. Attorney General (DOJ)
5. Interior | |
6. Agriculture | |
7. Commerce | |
8. Labor | |
9. Health and Human Services
10. Housing and Urban Development
11. Transportation | |
12. Energy | |
13. Education | |
14. Veterans Affairs | |
15. Environmental Protection Agency
16. Homeland Security | |
Obviously, my list is mostly white guys, several of whom are old guard; thus, it needs some work. Many of us will focus on agency heads in our areas of interest, e.g. for me, it is environmental issues so I focus on Interior, EPA and Agriculture. Others, like nyceve and eugene, may produce insightful picks for HHS. In any case, I truly believe we can influence some of these posts if we put our minds to it, especially going into Netroots Nation next summer.
OK, Game On.
