When I heard Kucinich was to be barred from the Iowa debate, I sent this letter to the editor of the Des Moines Register:
2007-12-13
Des Moines Register
To the Editor:
What a flagrant abuse of power you have shown by banning Dennis
Kucinich from the debate. At minimum you owe the public and Mr.
Kucinich an apology, as well as at least one free full page ad from him.
Sincerely,
Gene Keyes

and I sent a copy to the Kucinich campaign (info--at--kucinich.us).
A DK volunteer replied:
Hello Gene,
Thank you for your comments and support. I think the Iowa
Democrats set the rules not the newspaper.
In hope and peace,

To which I answered:
Gee whiz, I'd blame the Register: the article on your own web site states as follows:
"It was our determination that a person working out of his home did not meet our criteria for a campaign office and full-time paid staff in Iowa," according to a statement from the newspaper's top officials, including editor Carolyn Washburn."
There's a stench of Putinism in the Iowa debate, and I hope the DK campaign can mount a big protest effort there.
(And they ban Kucinich after letting in a token candidate like Alan Keyes [no relation to me]. At least Keyes was assertive, and told off the moderator when she tried to brush him aside.)
